Dance Theatre of Harlem

Upper School

The School of Dance Theatre of Harlem is committed to serious, quality ballet training.  Students in the Lower / Upper School are placed according to proficiency and are given the opportunity to present their work before an audience at the end of each semester, with a Holiday Show in the winter, and an Annual Spring Performance in late Spring. Students who have reached the required proficiency level may be invited to participate in the monthly Sunday Matinee performances, annual Galas, and community events.


UPPER SCHOOL

LEVELS 4 THROUGH 7
This program offers after-school ballet training for dance students with a system promoting physical education with self-expression. In the Upper School, the intensity of training increases, and lays the groundwork for those aspiring to a professional dance career, and/or a serious collegiate dance program. At this level, we foster individuality, discipline, and high self-esteem.

These classes provide further study and practice of ballet technique with greater emphasis on development of elevation, ballon, batterie, suppleness, aplomb and more challenging movement phrases.

Students who have reached the required proficiency level may be invited to participate in Sunday Matinee performances, special, and community events.

Classes typically run weeknights between 5:00pm EST – 8:00pm EST. Beginning Fall 2022, the DTH School will provide families with options for in person and virtual classes for all students in our Lower/Upper School.


UPPER SCHOOL – DANCE FUNDAMENTALS
This program offers classes to young people approximately between the ages of 12 and 18 years. Classes are open to young people who are interested in studying dance and provides instruction in the fundamentals required to build a strong basic dance technique. The core curriculum for this program will be Ballet Technique, and Jazz Fusion,

Classes typically run on Saturday afternoons and may be offered in person or virtual. Students who have reached the required proficiency level may be invited to participate in Sunday Matinee performances, special, and community events.
